After nearly 30 years away, retired police officer and Women Against Crime founder Trish Hoffman is returning to Scottsdale. The move represents a full circle moment for her.
As many women have, Trish experienced stalking from an ex-boyfriend. Over a year-and-a-half period while living in Scottsdale in the early 1990s, she filed dozens of police reports and three restraining orders. She moved three times, but he kept finding her. His pursuit came to a head one night after he threatened to kill her and himself. In 1993, she packed her car and fled to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In the Duke City, she found a new path as a police officer. Trish joined APD in 1995. “Graduating the police academy, I was in a position to control how things were going to go for myself. I wasn’t going to be afraid anymore,” she says.
Trish retired from APD in December 2017 after 23-years of working in the Public Information Office (PIO), Internal Affairs, and the Aviation Division, including K9/Patrol as Lieutenant. She holds more than 10 active certifications and specialty trainings consisting of leadership, self-defense, defensive tactics, and crisis intervention.
While in the APD, she created the women’s self-defense courses that have become the core of Women Against Crime. She founded Women Against Crime in 2001 and retired from APD in 2017 to focus exclusively on it.
Now, she’s bringing her message of empowerment and strategies for self-defense back to the place that inspired her journey by splitting her time between Albuquerque and Scottsdale. “I’m returning to Scottsdale a different person than when I left,” she says. “I took my power back, and I have 28 years of professional and personal experience in training women to do the same through Women Against Crime© self-defense programs. I’m ready to share this knowledge with the women of Scottsdale, just as I’ve done and will continue to do in Albuquerque.”
Women Against Crime offers one-on-one, group, and corporate training sessions in Albuquerque and Scottsdale. Trish is also a dynamic guest speaker for corporate and private events. Contact her to learn more.
